Updated 24.05.2005
On this page I want to provide some basic travel information for
Pervasive2005 participants.
If you miss any information please let me know.
Conference Location/Hotel
The conference
Pervasive2005 will be held at the hotel
Maritim
(German
Page,
English
Page),
Munich.
The postal address is:
Goethestraße 7
80336 München
Tel: (089) 55235-0
Fax: (089) 55235-900
GPS Coordinates of the Maritim: 48° 08'
17'' (48,13806), 11° 33' 32'' (11,5589)

The Maritim Hotel is the conference hotel. You can find other
hotels in
Munich on the website of the
Munich tourist information (direct link to hotels and accommodation).
Here is a
floor plan of the Maritim. The hotel
hallway and other rooms can be viewed on the hotel homepage.
A map guide can be found at
http://www.stadtplandienst.de
(German Map service) http://www.map24.de
(English Map Service). The following sketch depicts
Munich Central Station and the hotel location (black dot in the lower middle of the
image).

Munich Public Transportation

Arrival by Train
If you arrive by train at
Munich Central Station (in German:
Hauptbahnhof), leave at exit Goethestrasse (the exit with the CocaCola
advertisement). It is a few meters (about
50m) walk from the station. If you arrive by long-distance train, you arrive
at the elevated trails (see sketch above). Walk to the end of the trails and
turn right. You should leave the train station towards Bayerstrasse.

If you plan to take a taxi in Munich, please ask the hotel to get one for
you. At the airport there are enough taxis waiting, you can directly take
one and do not have to call for one.

Arrival by Aircraft
If you arrive at
Munich Airport, the fastest and cheapest way is going by public
transport. From
Munich Airport two lines of the S-Train (in German: S-Bahn
or Schnellbahn) leave at the Airport, the S1 (blue line) and the S8
(black-yellow line). Both go via several stops to
Munich Central Station (in
German: Hauptbahnhof) (see the
Munich public transportation map). Please note the white 'S' in the
green circle in the top left corner of the map meaning S-Train. It does
not matter which train you take, both take about equally long. You cannot go
in the wrong direction as the station is the final station for both lines.
When you arrive at
Munich Central Station by S-Train, you have to go up from the S-Train
level to the basement level (not down to the underground level!). From there
you can get to the elevated trails. The sign depicted is a red writing
'DB' in a red frame on white ground (see the logo in the top left corner
on the homepage of the German Trains,
www.bahn.de) means railway
and stands for German Train (in German: Deutsche Bahn). From there, look for
the exits towards Bayerstrasse (see sketch above). You have to pass by the
elevated trails.
A map of the public transportation (containing the S-Trains and U-Trains
(underground, in German: U-Bahn)) can be found at the site of the
MVV
(in German: Münchner Verkehrs Verbund), the local
transportation service provider. A direct link to the map (stored locally
for performance reasons) is here.
Going to
Munich using a taxi costs at least about 50 €, going by train
costs 10 €. There is no stopover when going by S-Train
and you only have to walk about 100 m from
Munich Central Station. If you
arrive in groups, a group day ticket is the cheapest alternative. If you
arrive alone, take a day ticket. Both tickets have to be valid for the whole
net (in German: Tageskarte Gesamtnetz).
Basic information about the prices and ticket types available in the
Munich public transportation are available on the web site of the
city of Munich, especially on the
ticket overview page of the Munich tourist information.
There is also a ticket office with two clerks at
Munich Airport. There are several automated ticket machines at the airport, but
they only take cash or cash cards (in German: EC-Karte, Euro Cheque Karte)
but no credit cards.
If you plan to take a taxi in Munich, please ask the hotel to get one for
you. At the airport there are enough taxis waiting, you can directly take
one and do not have to call for one.
Arrival by Car
As the hotel is directly in the center of
Munich, the arrival by car is not
recommended.
For our international guest, the city of
Munich has a
page dedicated to driving in and around Munich, also giving information
about parking spaces in the city center and at public transportation
stations. For up to date traffic information available, although this page
is only available in German, please go
here. Park and Ride stations can be found at
www.parkundride.de/ (only available
in German).
A detailed description of the route to take via superhighway (in German:
Autobahn) will be available
soon.
