Modelling
Advanced Mobile Interaction
with the Real World

Abstract
Model based evaluation played and plays a vital role in
designing usable applications. Additionally the rise of mobile phones leads
to more and more applications built for mobile interactions. So far it is
hardly possible to apply the strong advantages of model based evaluation to
the design process of mobile applications because these models have mostly
been constructed and evaluated for desktop interactions. One aspect to rank
and compare interactions is the user performance time which becomes even
more significant when people want to accomplish a task whilst they are on
the run or the mobile phone interaction is just a side task amongst others.
In this work we will provide a Mobile Phone Keystroke- Level- Model (KLM) to
predict the user performance time for advanced mobile interactions on the
keystroke level. Is it possible to model mobile HCI accurately and how can
models approved for desktop interactions (e.g. Card et al. KLM) be modified
and expanded to face the new challenges of mobile phone interactions are
just a few questions addressed in this work.
