Building a Personal Media Mobile Portal

Abstract

This work is devoted to the concept and development of a software solution for the mobile use of multimedia resources. It aims at the creation of a prototype for a multimedia portal (system) which gives users mobile access to their personal multimedia files even if these are stored in different formats. In this study, a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) is used as a Multifunction Playback Controller. A prototype was built following the UPnP Audio Visual Specification which defines tasks for peripheral devices. The standard UPNP protocol is used to localize and control peripheral devices. Several applications were developed thus constructing a UPnP Audio Visual Architecture.
