Eagle Library DesignIn this How-To we will address the design of libraries with Eagle from Cadsoft. First, make a new library.
After that you will see the library editor. In the picture below, the "SYMBOL" button is already highlighted. Add a symbol to our library by clicking the highlighted button.
Give the new symbol a name and click "OK". After that a warning will appear. You choose the button "YES" to accept the warning.
You will now be presented with the symbol editor. After you clicked on the "PIN" button, you can choose the direction of the pins and place all pins you need for your new symbol.
Now that you have added all pins you should give them the right name. After that draw a wire around your pins. Now add the name the your symbol and it's finished. It's by the way a good time to save your work - if you did not do that yet.
Now it's time to start the package editor. First create a new package by clicking on the highlighted "Package" button. After you clicked "OK" the a warning will appear and accept that warning with the "Yes" button.
First thing you should do is to draw the outline of your package. After that choose which kind of pads you need. If you draw a smd package use surface mounted pads, otherwise use the normal pad. Now place all pads you need. In the tutorial smd pads are used.
Now the package and the symbol are finished and it's time to start the device editor. You click on the button "Device" and give the device a new name. After that a warning will appear and also that warning should be accepted by pressing "Yes".
When the device editor is started click on the "Add" button to add your symbol. The next step you have to do is to add the package to the device. For that click on the "New" button on the right side of the editor. Then a window comes up where you choose your package. Then connect the symbol pins with the package pads. This is done in the window shown below. After that the new library is ready for use. Links
